Sherry Olivares returns to Summit as a key member of our 12’s and 14’s age groups coaching staff.  In her 27 year coaching career, she has worked at the high school, club and middle school levels.  She has been a successful club volleyball coach for 13 years, coaching in all USAV age levels and was previously on the Summit coaching staff for three years.  She has also coached at the Dallas Premier, Texas Assault and Madfrog volleyball clubs.

She is currently in her 1st season as the head coach at North Mesquite High School (TX), and has coached at the high school level for 23 years, including stops at Newman Smith (TX), South Garland (TX), Garland (TX) and John Paul II (TX) High Schools prior to accepting the position at North Mesquite.  Before moving into the high school ranks, she coached for 4 seasons at Austin Academy Middle School.  Her successful high school coaching career includes numerous winning records, capped off with repeated appearances in the state playoffs.

As a player, Sherry enjoyed a flourishing career as well.  She earned a full athletic scholarship to East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce), where she played as a middle blocker.  Among her numerous collegiate accolades were being named the school’s Most Outstanding Female Athlete in her senior year, her team’s Most Valuable Player Award, and being selected multiple times to the All-Conference Team.

Sherry co-founded a highly successful youth league, the Garland Volleyball Association (GVA), and is a USAV CAP Level 1 certified club volleyball coach.  The Dallas native enjoys spending her free time with her two children – Marissa, a sophomore volleyball player at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls Texas, and Michael, a junior who plays varsity basketball at Sachse High School (TX).
