Frequently Asked Questions

Dallas Summit FAQ

Dallas Summit Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is club volleyball?

A: Club volleyball extracurricular volleyball participation and most often refers to those teams that participate under USA Volleyball. Club volleyball is not associated with any school or college, but is made up of teams that register to play in scheduled USAV tournaments. These teams are most often grouped into clubs.

Q: What is Dallas Premier/Summit?

A: Dallas Premier and Dallas Summit are Volleyball Clubs for girls between the ages of 11-18. We exist to help these athletes achieve their goals, whatever they may be, by providing a place to compete at every level. We are primarily affiliated with USA Volleyball and have been around for 17 years.

Q: How do I make a team?

A: Every year tryouts are held for both clubs. For information on tryouts this year, please refer to our website. We also will be having an informational meeting prior to tryouts. Check the calendar on our website to find out when. Tryouts are usually at the end of October or early November and the informational meeting is a week or so prior to these.

Q: Is there room on your teams for new players? Do you ever just take returning players or pre-select your teams?

A: We NEVER fill out a team before tryouts. No position is filled until tryouts. The Region won’t even recognize official rosters until after certain dates and anyone who is promised a team spot before then has no guarantee that the clubs will honor that promise. We have open tryouts and take the best kids we can.

Q: I had a bad experience at other clubs, how is yours different?

A: If you went to a tryout where you were not allowed to leave the gym without committing to a team so that you could go to other tryouts, if you were promised a spot and then not given one, or if you simply didn’t like the way you were treated, then the only and best way to deal with those businesses is to take your business elsewhere. At Summit and Premier we are proud of our track record of honesty and character. We believe that you will be your best when you feel like you are genuinely cared for.

Q: How much time is involved?

A: Tryouts are in November and all the teams start practice in December. The regular season is over in May, but those teams that qualify for the USAV National Junior Olympic tournament will compete through June. Practices are as often as twice a week for some teams and once a week for others. Each level plays approximately 10 weekend tournaments during the season, most of which are Saturday and Sunday. Some teams will also travel to one or two out of state tournaments.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Depending on the team’s practice and travel schedule, the cost can be between $1400 and $3800. The payments are made monthly through March

Q: Are Dallas Premier and Dallas Summit good clubs?

A: The Dallas Premier/Summit family has consistently been one of the top 5 clubs in the DFW Metroplex for 17 years. Our club currently employs coaches who have experience as players and coaches at all levels of play from recreational to high school and all the way up to NCAA Division I. Our coaches have, collectively, more college coaching experience than any other club in this area.

Q: Where do you practice?

A: At the Volleyball Institute of Plano (VIP)

Q:  What is VIP?

A: VIP is the Volleyball Institute of Plano. It is the facility that houses the practice space for the two clubs. Though they are not the same, VIP is the permanent home of Premier and Summit. VIP has many opportunities to play the sport including youth programs (for kids 4th-6th), summer clinics, summer camps, positional clinics, private lessons, summer leagues, etc. All information for these things can be found on the website.

Q: Are you insured?

A: YES! When you register for USAV (which you must do to play club volleyball for Summit and Premier) you become partially insured. However, with VIP you are insured at all of our clinics, camps, and other events. Not all facilities and clubs have insurance outside of USAV, but we do.

Q: What can I do to get better if I don’t want to play club?

A: VIP offers a variety of options for people outside of club. Our Summit and Premier Coaches are also available to work camps, clinics, summer leagues, youth programs, and private lessons. All of our programs will have information on our website and most will even allow you to sign up and pay for them in advance online.

Q: What do I need to purchase in order to play volleyball?

A: If you make a team with Summit or Premier, all of your necessary equipment is included in the cost. If you are new to volleyball and you want to come to tryouts, most athletes will wear a t-shirt, athletic shorts or spandex, knee pads, and athletic shoes. You will not need to buy your own ball or any other equipment for our events.
